Paul Ma, CFA - Vice President, Lead Portfolio Strategist | Fidelity Investments
In this role, Mr. Ma assists the nation’s leading investment professionals to resolve their broadest portfolio concerns. As part of the PCG team, he partners with Fidelity’s sales and relationship management teams to arm investment professionals with the tools, know-how, and confidence they need to build robust model portfolios and explain them to their clients. Additionally, the PCG team leverages and builds upon Fidelity’s extensive experience in multi-asset, multi-manager, and multi-horizon portfolio construction. Since its inception in 2013, the PCG team has crafted over 20,000 custom-tailored portfolio reviews while also contributing to unique research and analytics around asset allocation, strategies, and risk.
Prior to joining Fidelity in 2015, Mr. Ma managed equity portfolios at a variety of firms, including U.S. equities at SunAmerica, international and global equities at McLean & Partners and BlackRock, and long/short equities at Quad Capital. Previously, he served as a member of the Strategic Relationships team at Putnam Investments where he helped clients to build better portfolios and provided thought leadership. As a co-founder of LifeHarbor, Mr. Ma also used his asset allocation and portfolio construction experience to work in software form.
Mr. Ma earned his bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from Harvard University and his master of technology and policy degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is also a CFA® charterholder and holds the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Series 7, 24, and 63 licenses. Additionally, Mr. Ma is a frequent speaker on investment topics at client venues as well as at Fidelity’s popular Portfolio Construction Institute events.

Darby Nielson, CFA - Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Fidelity Institutional Wealth Adviser (FIWA)| Fidelity Investments
Darby Nielson is deputy chief investment officer of Fidelity Institutional Wealth Adviser (FIWA), the registered investment advisor at Fidelity Institutional (FI), the Fidelity Investments business that offers financial professionals and institutions access to the investment, technology, and platform solutions they need to service their clients and grow their businesses. Fidelity Investments is a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing, and other financial products and services to institutions, financial intermediaries, and individuals.
In this role, he leads teams that help develop FI’s investment research and portfolio engineering capabilities, as well as supporting Fidelity’s broader investment thought leadership efforts.
Previously, Mr. Nielson served as a managing director of research in Fidelity Asset Management from 2011 to 2021. As director of research, he led a team of analysts conducting quantitative research for alpha generation and portfolio construction for Fidelity’s equity and high income funds, along with a team of analysts providing technical research recommendations to portfolio managers. He also provided oversight of research and development for systematic strategies in a variety of different vehicles (ETFs, mutual funds, SMAs). Prior to this role, he worked as a quantitative analyst, providing research to support Fidelity’s suite of Select Funds.
Before joining Fidelity in 2007, Mr. Nielson was an analyst at Putnam Investments from 2002 to 2006, conducting quantitative research as a member of Putnam’s value equities team. He was also an infantry officer in the U.S. Army for five years prior to attending business school. He has been in the financial industry since 2002.
Mr. Nielson earned his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and his master of business administration degree from the Sloan School of Management at MIT. He is also a CFA® charterholder.
